What to do When Your Dog's in Heat
You've just gotten a new female puppy. Let the fun begin! Obedience training, Potty training, teething, biting, barking, jumping, chewing, feeding, Veterinarian bills and all responsibilities of a new dog owner.
Choosing proper food for your puppy is important for the well being of the dog. First ingredients should be Meat or Poultry. If not, then the food is full of fillers.
Important ingredients to avoid are Soy, corn, wheat, artificial ingredients, harmful additives, preservatives or by-products. Depending how active your dog is the dog may not need a high percentage of the Protein. Some dogs required less than others.
When your dog's in heat...
Now your little female puppy is becoming a young lady! More fun ahead when she comes into heat at around six months to 24 months of age. Most female dogs have two cycles of heat per year which allow the dog to release eggs and reproduce. These cycles start after the dog has reached puberty.
Several warning signs will let you know if your dog is coming into heat:
- Swelling of the Vulva
- Vaginal Bleeding
- Increased attention by stray dogs hanging around the house
- She will have a distinct smell that can be picked up miles away by other dogs.
- Hump your leg
- Lick herself more than usual
- Increased restlessness
- Increased urination
